Today, I pay tribute to Pastor Gumbs — a man who led with the heart of a true shepherd and a mind anchored in Christ. His life was a reflection of the Gospel he preached: full of grace, wisdom, faith and unwavering commitment to serving others.
Pastor Gumbs was selfless in every sense of the word. It didn’t matter who you were, where you came from, or whether you were part of the church — he would help you without hesitation. His kindness extended beyond the walls of the church and reached deep into the community. He lived to make Christ known through his actions as much as his words.
He had a gift for making people feel truly seen, valued, and heard. No matter how full his day was, he always made time to pray with someone, offer words of encouragement, or extend a helping hand. He walked alongside others in their struggles with quiet strength and deep compassion, always guiding them back to the hope found in Christ. Whether in person or over the phone, he ended every conversation with a prayer — a gesture that reminded you that you were never alone.
Pastor Gumbs didn’t just preach about love — he lived it. He walked in humility, led with integrity, and served with joy. His impact is lasting, not just in the lives he touched directly, but in the example he set for all of us who had the blessing to know him.
Bro. Gumbs, though your voice no longer echo from the pulpit, your legacy continues in the countless lives you changed – including mine. You finished your race with faith and honour. I thank God for the gift of your life and leadership.
Rest well, Pastor Gumbs. Your light still shines.
