As a pastor’s son growing up, I had the opportunity to experience the “behind the scenes” view of ministry and see some things that you probably wouldn’t usually see. One of those experiences for me was to learn the names of many pastors who were contemporaries of my dad and their associated fields of ministry. This happened as our family would all be involved in sending correspondence to pastors, especially at Christmas time.
One of those enduring names on the list was Pastor Norril Gumbs. Seeing his name from my childhood and knowing that he served for several decades speaks to his incredible passion for the work of God. But even more importantly, his legacy of faithfulness, commitment, and dedication stands out as a testament to his love for the Lord and people.
The ministry of Shiloh Baptist Church is grateful for the friendship and partnership we shared with him, his family, and his ministry over the many years. And while we mourn his passing with his wife, family, church family, and loved ones, we rejoice in the fact that he is with the Lord and has run his race well.
Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you, and we are confident that God will grant you peace and comfort. And may the testimony and the memories left by Pastor Gumbs provide joy, knowing that heaven has welcomed a hero!
